Schedule, June 20-23, 2022

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the implications of climate change for population health and health equity
  • Review the implications of climate change for health systems
  • Interpret how climate change affects needs for and capacity to deliver health care
  • Consider opportunities to improve the resilience of health services and systems
  • Recognize the need for health system adaptation and resilience
  • Explain the environmental impacts of the health sector
  • Identify the characteristics of low carbon sustainable care
  • Become familiar with the CASCADES Project Charter, a tool to structure, capture, communicate and coach healthcare sustainability
  • Articulate why the health sector has an important role to play in sustainable change
  • Review efforts to deliver sustainable health systems in Canada and internationally
  • Consider how organizational and policy efforts can drive change
  • Identify challenges facing efforts to deliver sustainable health services and systems in Canada

Each day’s agenda includes:

  • Two hub-specific sessions of facilitated learning (3.5 hours in total). Hub specific activities include: (i) Meet and greet with local sustainability leaders (ii) Small group exercises to apply learning from national panels (iii) Trainee-led project development (optional) 
  • A nation-wide virtual panel, concurrent activity across all hubs (1.5 hours):  

Day 1: The implications of climate change for human health and health equity
Day 2: Health system adaptation and resilience 
Day 3: Mitigating the climate harms of healthcare  
Day 4: Leadership and making change 

  • Lunch (1 hour)
